Friday the 14th: The Sequel Nobody Asked For

Nov 14, 2025

Today is Friday the 14th, which is essentially Friday the 13th’s less dramatic younger sibling — the one who desperately wants attention but keeps tripping over its own shoelaces.

Let’s be honest: no one fears Friday the 14th. There are no horror films, no superstitions, not even a mildly spooky meme. It’s just… there. Looming. Trying its best.

Still, it is a Friday, which means society collectively cheers, pretends to be productive until lunchtime, and then decides that anything accomplished after 2pm is technically a bonus achievement worthy of a small trophy.

Today has also brought with it that unique mid-November vibe:

  • Cold enough to complain

  • Not quite cold enough for proper winter coat commitment

  • The time of year when half the country attempts to resist turning the heating on out of sheer stubbornness

And because it’s November, the shops are already in full Christmas mode. If you haven’t yet been aurally assaulted by Mariah Carey in a supermarket, consider yourself statistically blessed.

So what’s interesting about today?
Everything, if you squint hard enough.
Nothing, if you don’t.

Either way, it’s a good reminder that even the “ordinary” days can be a little bit ridiculous — and sometimes that’s worth writing about.
